HAPPY NEW YEAR
I know I'm a bit late - but it's been a tough one.
For Christmas, we got up opened our presents (I'd got DH full Highland Dress, conspiring with everyone so mum and dad bought the sporran, sister bought the Sgian Dubh, MIL bought kilt pins, SIL bought the Ghillie shoes!!) went to visit the inlaws, came home to change for dinner, went to the Chinese with my clan, then came home.
I was so low, I honestly felt ill. I also know I have consumed more alcohol these last couple of months than I have over the last two and a half years. The dull pain is so hard to explain and even harder to shift. That's six Christmases we've had to endure thinking.... this time next year....
So New Year wasn't something we were particularly looking forward to...
We had mum and dad coming over for dinner on New Years Day, so we were going to spend the bells our two selves watching tv. Sounds boring I know, but I don't really care for it any other year, so this year wasn't going to be any different.
At 6.30pm we were having our dinner, outside there was a gale blowing and it was pouring with rain. Apparently at that time the celebrations in Edinburgh and Glasgow were still going ahead, and I was thinking to myself - no way would I be going out it that, when - silence, darkness - powercut!!!!
Picture DH and I sitting by candlelight with the gas (thank God) fire on, playing Who Wants to be a Millionaire, drinking Mulled Wine!! We were listening to the radios on our mobiles when it got to about 10.30 - 10.45 and thought "what the hell" let's just go to bed!!
So, midnight, when everyone else is partying, we were snoring!!
Still no electric by 10am next morning and the helpline wasn't exactly helpful, so we ran over to MIL to say Happy New Year and ran home again. We didn't want to be out if it came back on, and we also didn't want to leave the house empty in darkness either. DH went out and bought four bags of coal for the dining room fire and I held off until 4.30pm to open the fridge and freezer to take out the stuff for dinner. I was on the phone to my mum just after 5pm to tell her to come over 6ish when woohoo, the lights came on!! Yippee!!
Battle stations - central heating on full, run around with the hoover, Christmas tree lights back on, music on in the dining room, and..... darkness again!!! Noooo!!!
Two minutes later (a very long two mins, with all the candles being re-ignited) the lights thankfully came back on! ! ! ! ! ! !
Couple of days after New Year, met up with Mary, Jenny and Paulina. It is so good catching up with these girls, I know I see Mary nearly every day, but it's just so good to see Jenny and Paulina and know tx can work. And poor Mary just ends up listening to me moaning all the time, so I'm sure she appreciates seeing Jenny and Paulina even more than me!!
Went shopping for a wedding dress for my sister yesterday. She's getting married on the 21st June in Cyprus. She was stunning! She could model for bridal magazines. This will sound awful, but I really hope I can't go because I will be too pregnant to fly. Do I sound like a terrible person?
